Last week you received an email to invite you to fill out the annual International Student Barometer. This is your chance to make your opinions about VU University count and possibly win one of the following prices: 1000 euro’s cash price, an iPhone or one of the famous VU bikes!
Today Laura Henderson (party leader ProVU) has joined the executive board (dagelijks bestuur) of the VU Works Council (Ondernemingsraad). We are very proud that ProVU now has a representative in the executive board of the Works Council and we wish her a lot of success in her new position!

From January 1st 2015 onwards, the VU/VUmc will have new Doctoral Regulations.
Two important things are changed in these new regulations:
1. Everybody should have a Training and Guidance plan (Opleidings- en Begeleidingsplan)
2. Every PhD Candidate will be required to obtain 30 ECTS (=840 hours) of training (all faculties and research institutes will have their own interpretation)
However: This latter rule does not have approval of the VU Works Council yet! This rule (Article 15 of the new Regulations) will be discussed in November and December in the Works Council.
We will keep everyone updated!
These new Doctoral Regulations do not apply for PhD Candidates who have submitted, or will submit, their Form 1 (to apply for your defense) before January 1st 2015.
Please find Form 1 here.

THE PHD SUPERVISOR AWARD
The PhD Candidate Network of the Netherlands (PNN) established this award to recognize exemplary faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in PhD candidate supervision.
The recipient will be honored with a Certificate of PhD Supervision Excellence and an iPad!
PhD candidate supervision requires complex interaction between candidates and the graduate supervisor. An outstanding PhD supervisor is a mentor, an advisor, a role model and a strategist. A caring and effective supervisor possesses a high level of energy and ingenuity.
Yesterday, we had a Meet & Greet (& discuss & drink) with Prof. Jaap Winter about how we see the VU, what makes the VU special and for what kind of university do we want to work.
Thank you all for this inspiring evening!
